For over 50 years Southwest Medical has had the honor of serving our friends and neighbors across Southern Nevada. Today, we’re happy to say that our passion is stronger than ever. So, here’s to another 50 years of happier, healthier living.
How it started and where we're going

In 1972, local cardiologist Dr. Anthony Marlon started a small practice in Las Vegas. Shortly after, he hired Dr. Robert Hulse, a family physician, and began offering multi-specialty care.
Health Plan of Nevada launched in 1984 as the first HMO in the state, and the practice was renamed Southwest Medical Associates.
From a single clinic, Southwest Medical has grown to become Nevada’s largest multi-specialty medical group. Today, patients have access to 41 clinics, including six Urgent Cares, and more than 450 local health care providers throughout Southern Nevada.
Under the leadership of Dr. Robert McBeath, CEO of Southwest Medical & President of Optum Care, Southwest Medical has grown to be a true community partner giving our patients the health care they want, when and where they want it. Now, and for the years to come.

Dr. Anthony Marlon open his cardiology practice.
1984
HPN launches as the state's first HMO and the cardiology pracice is renamed to Southwest Medical Associates.
2004
Southwest Medical introduces electronic medical records.
2008
Southwest Medical joins UnitedHealth Group.
2014
Southwest Medical joins Optum Care and begins offering 24/7 virtual visits.
2016
Medicine on the Move mobile medical center begtins seeing underserved patients.
2020
Southwest Medical opens state's first COVID-19 curbside testing site.
2022
